Domina, TAG Gallery, Los Angeles | May 2024

As a woman artist with a passion for pushing boundaries, my solo show, Domina, draws inspiration from the Latin word for mistress. Through collage, I navigate the realms of sensuality and rebellion using iconic imagery from 70s and 80s Playboy cutouts. With vibrant acrylic hues as a base, I piece together a narrative that challenges conventional norms and embraces the power of the feminine.

In my work, the city, the ocean and the moon serve as a metaphorical landscape, a fluid realm where desires, fantasies, and societal expectations converge. The waves mirror the complexities of human experience, providing a backdrop for the exploration of sensuality and subversion.

As a synesthete, my creative process is enriched by the interplay of senses. The fusion of visual and tactile elements, guided by the emotional resonance of colors and textures, creates a multi-dimensional experience for both the creator and the audience.

Domina invites viewers to question their preconceived notions surrounding femininity and power. The collage pieces, layered with symbolism and provocative imagery, challenge the viewer to confront their own perspectives on eroticism and societal norms. Through this exploration, I can subvert established narratives and create new ones, inviting a reconsideration of the facets of female identity.

As a woman navigating the world, Domina is a manifesto, a celebration of empowerment, and a testament to the unapologetic embrace of both the sensual and the rebellious.
